INFORMAL PRACTICE

Remember to pause throughout the day to notice and reflect on the ever changing nature of phenomena - so called outer, inner and innermost (refer to PDF).

Do your best to balance presence to what's unfolding (the content, form, energy etc.) with openness and spaciousness.

Remember, when lost in the content (form or energy), ask yourself "what else is happening?" as an access to more openness.

INFORMAL PRACTICE

Remember to pause throughout the day whenever uncertainty is a trigger for you.

Notice the tendency to act or react impulsively as well as the habit to resist, avoid or fix by trying to control or "figure things out".

Do your best to befriend the associated thoughts and feelings within your own embodied holding environment and rest with not knowing, even if only for moments at a time "off the cushion".

You can always choose to revisit the situation more deeply on the cushion when you have time...

INFORMAL PRACTICE

Remember to pause and reflect throughout the day and week.

What if this were your last day?

What would you do?

How would you be?

JOURNAL EXERCISE

Reflect on these lines about the inevitability of death; being like:

A fish caught in a net

A prisoner condemned to execution

An animal in a slaughterhouse

If you feel "hooked", then write about your feelings and reactions.

INFORMAL PRACTICE

Remember to pause and reflect on death during the day and week.

See others in their fragility - loved ones and all those with whom you interact. See everyone as though this is their last day.

How would you relate to them? What would you wish for them?

MEDITATION & JOURNALING

Reflect on the worst case death scenario for you and your loved ones for each of these:

Illness

Accident

Disaster

Violence

Remember the "Holding Environment" to balance contact (love, seeing, care) with space.
