Janine's Bio

A licensed physical therapist (B.S. McGill University, 1983), Reiki practitioner, certified Shake Your Soul® teacher and certified fitness trainer, Janine augments her classes with aspects of therapy, healing, and fitness for an integrated experience.

Janine began her own yoga practice in 1992. Since then, she has participated in yoga teacher-training led by Sarah Powers in California and regularly enhances her practice with workshops, extended retreats and inner work.  Other influential teachers have been those of the Tibetan Buddhist lineage - Lama Willa Miller, Lama John Makransky, Brendan Kennedy, Lama
Surya Das, Charles Genoud, and Pema Chodron - and Buddhist psychologists Jennifer and John Welwood, and Jack Kornfield.  Janine teaches both a yin and yang style of yoga, as well as meditation.

In 2009 Janine met Daniel Leven, founder of Shake Your Soul® and the Leven Institute, and immediately knew that she wanted to offer another type of movement class focused on creativity, fun and great music. Shake Your Soul® classes were the perfect fit.

Janine is committed to the path of healing and transformation in her own life and helps others through her classes, workshops, retreats, Reiki and private sessions.  She also volunteers teaching meditation classes at the Suffolk County House of Corrections.

FOR ALL CLASSES

  • Beginners and drop-ins always welcome at our non-intimidating, supportive and friendly environment.
  • Please arrive early at your first Tranquil Flame class and dress in comfortable exercise clothing.
  • Classes are generally done barefoot.  No special footwear required.
  • Yoga equipment included.

SHAKE YOUR SOUL® CLASSES

  • Move your body, expand your heart and shake your soul with amazing music in this fun, holistic dance-based class which makes exercise playful and joyful.

  • All ages and sizes welcome.  No dance or movement experience necessary.

  • The perfect blend of guided movements and creative exploration designed as a great workout while connecting you to your deepest joy.

YOGA CLASSES

  • Yoga means to "yoke" or unite as in body, heart, mind and spirit.
  • Classes are gentle to moderate.  Options provided for beginning and experienced students.

  • Each class is unique and may include yin, yang and/or restorative styles of Hatha yoga. Yin yoga is a deep and passive practice while the yang style is vinyasa-based with a slow and therapeutic approach. Yin classes often include a seated meditation practice.
